Roof Diagnostics | Cores Vs Thermographic Scans and Cores

Keely Warren / 22 August 2024

At Tremco, we go a step further with our roof surveys. Equipment matters, which is why we use state-of-the-art thermographic scan technology to visually determine where water is getting in and the severity of the ingress. We call this the science of early detection – to catch issues before they become more serious.

We have a range of diagnostic technologies and may employ a combination of high-tech testing alongside pin-point physical investigations - depending on the roof and the environment. Demonstrated here is our mid-wave technology. Tremco’s method of data collection provides you with the best data to make the most informed decision relative to capital spending. With our leading Roof Diagnostics, we can determine the most cost-effective solution.

The majority of manufacturers and suppliers will only undertake core samples at the survey stage, this means:

  • Presents a very localised understanding of where water ingress is
  • May not have a clear understanding of where the leak is coming from
  • Invasive therefore recommended not to do a lot of cores
  • A potentially more costly remediation plan suggested

However, carrying out a thermographic scan (Roof Diagnostics) alongside core samples means:

  • Only a few cores are taken
  • Visually represents where moisture is and the severity
  • Can visually expose where the leak/issues start
  • More cost-effective roof remediation plan based on factual data (not assumed by just cores)
  • Comprehensive data report to support funding bids

The Steps for Roof Diagnostics

Step 1 - Tramex gives an initial insight into where moisture is

Step 2 - Core sample to investigate roof build-up and condition

Step 3 - Moisture gauge confirms moisture data in the core sample

Step 4 - Verification of where is moisture across the entire roof: Roof Diagnostics
